Clockwork Dreams

Enthusiastically Unstable; Eloquently Retrotech

Let me draw your characters!

So, I happened to see this post by Ralph Contreras for a daily drawing exercise, which I thought was a nifty idea. And which I am thusly yoinking for my own practice!

Basically, I would like you (all!) to leave a comment with a written description, reference picture, or both of a character you like or have created. Then I will set aside some time every day to draw one of them. Then I will scan them whenever I can get access to a working scanner and post them on this very blog! If you’ve got a twitter page, I can send you a @ when I put your character/request up so you can check it out.

COMMENT AWAY!

  2. Oooh! Neat!

I have a full description of Emrys here: http://addergoole.com/Emrys.html

    Copied pertinent bits here:

On another man, Emrys’ pointed, beardless chin, smooth skin and long, silky midnight-brown hair might be called effeminate; even his narrow, aristocratic nose could be called delicate.

It is in part because of the natural daintiness of his features, and a certain slimness to his body, that Emrys chooses to carry and portray himself as he does. He dresses in leather and denim, black, indigo, faded gray, and red; his leather biker jacket rarely leaves his shoulders, any more than his motorcycle boots, well-worn, leave his feet; the boots balance a certain shortness of stature; he’s under 5’7” in sock feet (170.18 cm). Under the thick leather, he’s rather skinny; working out regularly gives him a lean hardness but builds no real muscle mass.

His hair is a brown just shy of black, and it worn straight down his back, pushed back from his face. He is pale, a shunner of the day-star even before coming to Addergoole, and the dark hair only accentuates that. He smiles rarely but smirks often, and holds a superior smugness up as a defensive shield. He has not even a hint of beard or mustache, and his eyebrows are expressive but possibly a little thin. His cheekbones are high and sharp on his triangular face.

    That is awesome!

I’d like to request my character Silver, who’s a werewolf.

He has short blond hair (just long enough at the front to fall into his eyes at the front), grey slightly droopy eyes and pale skin. His lips are thin, his nose straight. He is lean, but muscular. He has a large scar on his chest, which runs diagonally from his right shoulder down to his left hip. He’ll more likely than not have a surly (or irritated) expression on his face, and strong, confident body language.

Or, if you want to draw him in wolf form: big, as tall as a person, with wide saucer eyes, long legs and a broad head. His coat is soft grey, his tail thick and tipped with black. The scar (and attitude), of course carries over to this form.

No reference pictures, unfortunately, because I can’t draw. Hope that’s detailed enough for you?

  5. This is a character from my novel, “Swords and Sigils”. On Twitter, I’m @sharontherose.

    Sarta
    About 6′1″
    36 years old
Medium brown hair (beginning to gray), brown eyes
Fair skin, beginings of age lines
    Large bone structure
Heavily muscled, not quite “body-builder” but close
Medium bosom & hips (exercised a lot during teen years, which limited that growth)
Narrow waist, flat stomach; high waist
Large feet & hands; average torso & leg length

    Sleeveless tunic of pale color
    Dark brown trews
Calf-high boots of canvas, turned-down cuff
Small knife in left boot cuff
2-inch-wide leather belt snug around waist
two 1-inch sword belts w/ sheaths
    Reference Kiliji for the blades
    Sheaths are very plain
Hilts also simple and resembles that of the Yatagan.
Guard is small, round, and gently cupped toward the blade like the Dao Sword
Wrist brace on each hand; more to support wrist than protect arm. Reaches ~5 inches up arm. Plain canvas, laced up top side of hand/arm; loose ends of laces tucked under.

Hair pulled back in simple braid
Strong face, hawkish nose, heavy eyelids, broad cheeks, average chin
Three small metal rings in right earlobe
Two bone rings in left earlobe
    No makeup, but naturally attractive

    Serene expression, not easily upset
    Watchful, observant
Moves like a predator, economy of movement, relaxed until time for action
Generally good-natured, but not facially expressive; most expressions are subtle

  6. Ooh! Ooh! Could you draw my character, Corrie?

Vital stats: Quite tall (5′10″ or so). Skinny but muscular, especially in the legs–she’s a runner. Not a whole lot of body fat, meaning A-cups at best and the bare minimum of hips. Blonde hair a little past shoulder-length, usually worn in a tight ponytail. Light blue eyes. Pretty but not exactly beautiful. Fine bone structure. Big smile. Usually wears skinny jeans, scuffed white sneakers, faded blue T-shirt. Might be wearing a necklace of leaves and/or flowers.

Awesome idea, cant wait to see all the drawings you do!

  8. You can see pix of Chevenga at http://asakraiya.blogspot.com or http://chevenga.blogspot.com or http://www.chevenga.com/encyclopedia.html .

I managed these images by sampling cover art for the dead-tree version of my books into FaceGen (http://www.facegen.com).

But though FaceGen does allow you to manipulate expressions, I’ve never got a smile on an image of Chevenga that I like. So you think you can do one of him smiling? He has a big Barack Obama-type smile that lights up his whole face.

I’m really looking forward to seeing all the art.

What’s the deal re using it on our websites if we like it enough? Or manipulating/colorizing etc.?

I am @Chevenga on Twitter. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Here’s an image of my character Minis Aan, at eclipsecourt.blogspot.com If you really want a challenge you could draw him in disguise with jaw-length hair, spectacles and gloves… plain scholar’s robe… and a shy smile… Thank you!

  10. Shirley Meier says:

Or there’s a different character entirely… Kyrus Talain Jr. Dark skin, fine features… high cheekbones (almost Afghani) green eyes and loose curly/wavy hair… either with a lower face veil, or bundled up in furs against mountains.

    oh dear… I forgot… on twitter… vryka
