As you may know if you follow me on Twitter, I have been making a crochet collar (or choker, for those of you who prefer that rather gruesome term). It’s sort of a practice run for one that I am going to make for myself, but it’s coming out rather well so I’ll probably sell it.

But this is a tangent. The question is thus:

Should I leave the collar as-is, i.e. have it be simply the crochet as the body, or should I choose a suitably-colored fabric lining to sew to the inside to help it retain shape?

The current near-completed state of the collar:

Thoughts? (You may also comment via Twitter if that is more comfortable for you. But please, do comment.)

PLEASE leave a comment with your opinion! Whatever it is! …Unless it has nothing to do with hair. I don’t want any irrelephants here.

Whenever my hair is long, I periodically toy with the idea of cutting my hair short. Short-short. It’s usually long, so this happens a lot. Lately it’s just been a thought, as I really like being able to have a braid.

Then recently (yesterday? This morning?) I realized that my hair is long enough that if I were to cut it, I could donate it to Locks of Love. This added a pretty big chunk of weight to the “cut my hair!” side of the scale.

But I still want to be able to braid it, you know? Well, being me, and having so much experience with anime, I thought to myself… hey! How about that hairstyle where they have short hair but then they have this long tail of hair in the back/bottom?

It’s such a weird hairstyle, though, and cutting my own hair to look nice while really short is such a pain…

Anyway. I want your opinions! See the rough references below.

All the wigs pictured are done by Katie Bair, who is amazing.

Kuja from FF…9?

Krad from DNAngel:

Aishia Clan-Clan from Outlaw Star:

The main differences between these and what I’m thinking is that my long hair is shorter (more like Kuja’s) and that I would want the hair on the head to be shorter. Like… well, shorter. I can’t find any reference pictures and I don’t know the names of these things. Not quite pixie cut, but not jaw-length, you know? Also, I would leave the bangs/hair around my face longer – about Kuja’s length, as well, except I also have actual side-parted fringey bang things whatever you want to call it. My forehead is mostly covered.

Oh, and my hair is actually a medium dark brown, of course.

So, do you think that, as a hair-style, this would look absolutely stupid? Obviously I don’t expect you to know how it would look on me specifically – although there are (crappy) photos of me in this blog and on my Brizzly image gallery if you want to dig for them.

I was craving some beets the other day and had the fantastic idea of making a beet pie. I managed to find this recipe on the internet and decided to try it out, or at least a variant thereof.

The first difference was that I did not make the crust. I used a pre-made graham cracker crust. Also, I used whipped cream to top it.

Onward, to pictures!

(Right here should have been a shot of the beets after being pre-cooked but before the mixture was all done. I forgot about taking pictures for a bit, though.)

And finally…

It tasted delightful, unless you have a burning hatred for either beets or nutmeg. I did learn a few things for next time, however.

First, I didn’t cut up enough beets. It was a pretty reasonable amount, but I estimated how much I’d cut up (the recipe gives it in weight instead of volume!) and unfortunately estimated higher than I actually had.

Second, the beets need to be cut up into smaller pieces. I’d say an average cube size of a centimeter would do it; diced more than cubed.

Third, I need to make sure the spices are mixed in evenly! My first bite had entirely too much nutmeg and I thought for a minute that the whole pie was like that.

(Did I mention this is the first pie I’ve ever made?)

Funny story.

I was baking brownies for my boyfriend’s birthday, and I added twice the flour needed. Oops.

After much debate, I decided to finally just double the recipe, despite only having one baking dish. Unfortunately, when I put the batter in said baking dish, I apparently put in rather more than half. Fear the super thick brownies!

So then, I realized that even if I waited for those to cool before baking the rest, I probably didn’t have enough batter to fill up the baking dish. In retrospect, I think I was wrong. Regardless.

While I don’t have another baking dish, I do have a pair of cookie sheets. So I took the brownie batter, shaped it into a roughly round cake-like shape (it was extremely sticky) on a cookie sheet, and stuck it in the oven.

The result looks kind of like a giant cookie…

… or a cow patty.

You’re welcome!

So, I purchased the Steampunk Jump from Clockwork Couture, a wonderful steampunk-style clothing shop run by the equally wonderful and talented Donna Ricci. (And, in the process of grabbing that first link, discovered that she added new clothing today. EXCITEMENT!)

This post is simply an excuse for me to take lots of photos of myself wearing it. The shirt is more Rennaissance than Victorian, I admit, but I couldn’t find the one I was looking for and it’s still an awesome shirt. Right? Right. The goggles which appear in a couple of the photos are Authentic British Military Desert Goggles, and make me wish that they didn’t look so silly with/fit over my glasses.

I’m too lazy to figure out how to make Wordpress hide all the images on the main page, so I’m just going to plop them into an HTML page.
