Clockwork Dreams

Enthusiastically Unstable; Eloquently Retrotech

Fan-rambling time!

| August 17, 2011

So, yesterday Lyn dangled the tantalizing carrot in front of my nose of the possibility of Leofric being a character in the canon timeline. Very tantalizing carrot. Oh, and then I found out that Phelen and Wren (yay Wren) have a shadow-raven-baby, which gave me ideas. SO. I’ve been spending a good amount of thought [...]

Steampunk as a Philosophy

| June 7, 2011

Basically, the title. Most steampunks view it as an aesthetic philosophy. Some as a literary philosophy. And some as a life philosophy, which combines elements of the first two. I happen to view it as a life philosophy. (Which explains why people who clearly do not get it make me rage! Because I am like [...]

Writing tools, processes, et al.

| June 6, 2011

So, Nathan Blevins asked me on twitter about what sort of special tools I use to aid in my writing. (Fiction/novel writing, for those of you new to my endeavors.) It’s a tough question, largely because I really am still quite new to this whole novel-writing. I think my first serious attempt at writing was [...]

The Last Transmutation of the Fullmetal Alchemist

| July 13, 2010

October, 2003. I was off at my first (academically ill-fated) semester of college, enjoying being surrounded by squadrons of like-minded geeks. One of my new friends and fellow anime-watchers told us he’d found this cool new series that had started a few weeks ago called Fullmetal Alchemist, and we should come check it out. And [...]

Stupid Internet

| July 4, 2010

I wrote up a whole big post about being American and independence and all kinds of awesomeness that would have made a great inspirational speech and my internet was dead so I couldn’t post it so I selected ‘suspend to disk’ for my computer but it apparently actually just logged me out so I lost [...]

Nook, Kindle, etc… What would make ME buy an e-book reader?

| May 4, 2010

It’s a tough decision, shopping for an e-book reader. Not the least of which being that there is not a single e-book reader that even remotely approaches what I want. Especially when you have such lovely Kindle horror stories about losing your privacy or your lack of ownership of your possessions. Which begs the question: [...]

Disney’s “Princess Problem”, a.k.a. Redactive Marketing?

| February 23, 2010

So, lately, especially since the Frog Princess first came to light, there’s been all this talk about Disney’s “princess problem” and how they’re setting up their movies in an attempt to reverse that mentality. So of course I am sitting here, being an animated Disney movie fan myself, and marvelling on the bizarre nature of [...]

UPDATE to “Do you know the title of this book?” – FOUND IT!

| February 17, 2010

original post is here You may all be pleased/excited/uncaring to know that, thanks to my mother’s excellent advice in pointing me towards the BookSleuth forum at AbeBooks, I now have the title and author of the bizarre and confusing book that I was so puzzling over! It is “Lavondyss” by Robert Holdstock, and the reviews [...]

Dreaming new worlds

| October 29, 2009

I had an awesome dream the other night, and not for the same reasons that my dreams usually will earn the adjective of awesome. In fact, it had what would often have been a count against it: elves. Yes, the entire dream was about elves. Every single person in it was an elf. But no, [...]

Impossible Dreams and a Steampunk Lifestyle

| October 1, 2009

I have a lot of things that I’d like to do in my life. Too many, in some respects. I’m generally good at recognizing the practicality/plausibility of achieving each of them, and in some cases trimming the ideas down to make them more doable.

But there is one such dream that I have which I honestly don’t think will ever happen, mostly because the first requirement would be having lots of money. And I mean lots of money. As I like to tell myself frequently, however, there is always the chance (however infinitesimally small) that I will someday come into a very large quantity of money, so sometimes I pass my mental idle time by planning out the logistics of achieving this dream if I had the money.

I’m sure by this point you’re thinking “is she going to tell us what this idea is or not?!” Whyever would I do that? (Just kidding.) The idea can be summarized in a single, simple sentence, actually.

Create a steampunk town.
